Pretty much clears it up. Don't try to be a moderator. Let them do their job.
That thread proves my point. I didn't even say anything relating to mods. I attempted to help a guy make better topic titles. Thus I was not backseat modding, as I originally stated.
You don't have to talk to the mods. You attempted to do their job, which is the basis for backseat modding.
So being helpful is now off limits? Good to know for future reference I guess.
